I was disappointed with their greatly hyped specialty dish Soy Sauce Chicken at Master Hung BBQ. Yes the meat was juicy and tender, but the skin was not as tight and crunchy as I had expected. And the flavour of the braising sauce was pretty mediocre. Although it was not bad or maybe slightly better than average, with it being the priciest soy sauce chicken (whole: $22.80, half: $10.80) among all the BBQ specialty places in Richmond, it was just lacking of refinement and value. In comparison, the soy sauce chicken prepared at Specialty Chicken Wonton House (whole:$21.50, half: $10.75) was so much better.
I had been meaning to visit Master Hung BBQ Restaurant for quite a while. Since I wrote a post on best Cantonese BBQ places in Richmond, I got some feedbacks on how I should complete the list with Master Hung. The restaurant is slightly out of my way since it is right outside of Central Richmond. I finally decided to make the effort to drive there and give them a try. The restaurant was packed with diners, and it appeared that they had a huge menu covering buy tramadol online without prescriptions other dishes other than just BBQ. The cashier lady (who seemed to be an owner or manager) asked me to wait for a minute, then got herself busy hand calculating check after check. Oh come on, it’s 2014. Get a computer! So I was staring at her for 10 minutes and finally she finished her calculating and took my order. It could have only taken 10 seconds for her to take my order and get my order being prepared in a timely manner. This just showed how important customer service was on the restaurant runner’s mind.
I also ordered BBQ pork since they ran out of BBQ duck. And yes this was also pretty pricey BBQ pork at $11.80 per lb. It was decent, but nothing special.
Master Hung might have established a great reputation over the years with their specialty dishes, and become a restaurant with full menu and royal customers. But I’m hoping they are not straying from their root and scaring away new customers with their services.
