I went to Chef Hung at Aberdeen Centre when it first opened 8 years ago. It was such a big thing back then because it was the very first North American shop of the famous chain in Taiwan. When I have to pay extra for the brand, I usually have high expectation. This was the case for me when visited here. The meal was good but it didn’t rock my world. And years later, when their pricing does NOT seem to be above everyone else, the change in perspective does affect how the food tastes. Oh, human psychology.
For a bit of variety, I got the Beef Shank, Tripe, and Tendon Noodle soup. And I chose the wide noodles, which were nicely al dente despite sitting in hot broth. The broth had a good balance of savoury and umami flavours, which seemed quite natural, making it a good complement to meats that were more heavily seasoned. All the meat proteins were nicely tender, especially the beef shank. For a quick lunch, it was a decent eat.
