The Three Brits serves modern pub fare on the $25 Dine Out Vancouver menu

It’s the time of the year for Dine Out again!  I was invited by Donelly Group to try the Dine Out Vancouver Festival menu at one of their participating restaurants/pubs. So here I am with my buddy Graham at The Three Brits, the group’s popular public house with a scenic location at English Bay.

From 57 restaurants in 2003, the participation in Dine Out Vancouver Festival had grown to 307 restaurants in 2019. This year the festival is taking place from January 18 through February 3, featuring restaurants all over Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Each restaurant is offering multi-course dinners at $15, $25, $35, and $45.

We have the best table in the house that looks right at the waterfront. Although it was on a winter evening, it was quite warm and cozy inside the pub; with the beautiful light show outside, the ambiance was set for a casual romantic date.

For appetizer, the Field Greens, tossed with charred avocado, berries, feta, and candied almonds, has a bright and tangy dressing. I was surprised to find strawberries in the salad, thinking maybe beets would be better for the season. The Crispy Cauliflower was seasoned perfectly and very tasty.

The mains came in generous portions. The Spaghetti & Bison Meatballs impressed us with the lean & mean meatballs with a ton of flavors. But my favorite has to be the Guinness Pie, visually stunning, but also packed with incredible bold flavours and different textures. The crouton-like pice crust bites were the highlight of the dish, slightly crunchy and puffy, a perfect complement to the large chunks of beef and mushrooms. This is a dish that I will come back for.

the wines selected for the wine pairing were all premium choices of BC wine. I particularly enjoyed the Lock & Worth Sauvignon Blanc to pair with the cauliflower for the bright and slightly tangy taste and the Adega Malbec to pair with the Guinness Pie for the bold flavour but with an elegant finish.

I enjoyed both the Cherry Cheesecake Jar and the Dark Chocolate Praline Bar, both decadent choices for the sweet tooth. The portion was quite big, especially after such the large main, a little difficult for us to finish the whole thing,  but I’m sure a lot of people could handle it.

Final thought

The Guinness Pie is definitely the highlight of the Dine Out menu, best pub dish I have had in a long time.  The inside out pie concept is a hit for me.  As the other dishes are solid, overall the $25 menu is definitely worth checking out.
